2018 Call for Entries and People’s Choice Award

Entries are now open for one of the nation's leading contemporary emerging art prizes, the churchie national emerging art prize  2018. Now in its thirty-first year, ‘the churchie’ continues to identify, support and profile the next generation of Australia’s emerging visual artists.

The prize now offers a total prize pool of $25,000 with the inclusion of the newly announced People’s Choice Award of $3,000, donated by Madison Cleaning Services. The overall winner will receive a non-acquisitive $15,000 cash prize donated by Brand+Slater Architects. One highly commended prize of $5,000 and two commendation prizes worth $1000 will also be awarded.

Each year, over 900 individual artworks are submitted from Australia’s emerging artists, comprising a diverse range of visual art forms, from painting to site-specific installation.  As the ‘prize to watch’, the finalists exhibition continues to attract record numbers at the official opening + prize announcement held at QUT Art Museum, Brisbane.

Entries close on Wednesday 30 May, with finalists notified in June of their selection. For an entry fee of $50, entrants can submit up to three artworks completed in the 12 months prior to 23 April 2018. All finalists will have the professional practice opportunity to work directly with the senior curator from QUT Art Museum.

The major prize and three commendation awards will be announced at the Official Opening + Prize Announcement on Friday 7 September, from 6 to 8pm. The exhibition will continue for eight weeks, from 8 September to 4 November at QUT Art Museum.
